The Sr. Transmission Controls Engineer will be a member of the Controls engineering. This person will be involved in the specification, design, development and calibration of control systems predominantly for multi-speed automated transmissions. Responsibilities include:

  • Technical and financial responsibility for control projects of a broad variety in both content and value – responsibility dependent on level of experience
  • Specific responsibility for complete software delivery or individual modules will be assigned for each project depending on prior experience
  • Algorithm design and development using model based design tools
  • Rig and vehicle test and calibration development
  • Generating and maintaining customer relationships including development of new business proposals
  • Compliance with and development of company software standards
  • Presentation and communication of technical project elements to client companies
  • Compliance with company processes and quality standards

Candidates will have prior experience in automated transmission control system development, including the following: 

  • Requirements capture for automotive control systems
  • Model based design techniques for automotive application
  • A good understanding of mechanical systems
  • Calibration of transmission on test rig, calibration of transmission in vehicle
  • Knowledge of MATLAB\Simulink\Stateflow for algorithm design and RTW/Embedded coder for auto code generation would be advantageous as would prior experience in the use of calibration tools such as CANape or INCA
  • An understanding of the requirements of fulfilling ISO26262 and/or ISO13849 would be advantageous
  • Previous experience in hydraulics design and/or modelling would be advantageous
  • A high level of aptitude is expected along with the ability to determine innovative and robust solutions to the numerous control challenges which present themselves during a typical project – evidence of this capability should be demonstrated by the candidate
  • Candidates will also be required to have an understanding of the commercial aspects of a consultancy business and to be able to present themselves and their work to a customer

Other requirements include:

  • Five years’ experience of transmission / driveline control development
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering
  • Fundamentals of automatic transmission operation and the control thereof
  • High standard of algorithm modelling
  • Some travel within the USA and to overseas client sites is also anticipated (approximately 10%)
