A Day at the Concours d’ Elegance

From its beginnings in the late 19th century, to present day, Detroit has earned and retained the nickname, the “Motor City”.

IF EVERYONE IS MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER, THEN SUCCESS TAKES CARE OF ITSELF.
— Henry Ford

From the development of highly efficient internal combustion engines, to electrification and autonomous vehicles, the future is uncertain yet thrilling.

Some of us own “classics” from the past; some favor Detroit “muscle cars” and others prefer classic airplanes.

To celebrate society’s affection and respect for “wheeled vehicles”, the “Concours d’ Elegance” had its beginning in France in the late 18th century. The French Aristocracy is credited with the earliest events. Horse drawn carriages were gathered and judged. Women’s high fashion was also included. As automobile design developed and evolved; automobiles became the focus of Concours d’ Elegance events.

Since its origination in France to present day, the Concours d’ Elegance is celebrated in different parts of the world; including here in Detroit which hosts an annual event that is one of the largest. Through world events and economic ups and downs, this salute to the beauty, creativity and practicality of the automobile has endured and retains its iconic status to those who admire and understand the significance of the automotive industry.

Next month a list of Concours d’ Elegance events will be provided and briefly described. Readers input and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged; email them to me at ppryce@pilotsysintl.com.
